Established in 1953, the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) is the governing body for water-based activities in the UK.
Yachting experience courses under the RYA Cruising Scheme aim to promote high standards of seamanship and navigation among yachting
individuals. This scheme comprises a series of complementary practical and shorebased courses for which Completion Certificates will be
awarded. Participants can join the courses to increase their knowledge and confidence, or use them as a progression to the RYA Yachtmaster
Certificates of Competence, which are recognised by maritime authorities worldwide.
RYA courses are also offered at world renowned sailing academies such as the UK Sailing Academy
and the British Offshore Sailing School.

All RYA Training Centres must have qualified staff, suitable boats and adequate safety procedures.
Safety is a priority for the RYA. Each RYA Centre is regularly inspected for standards of tuition, facilities and equipment, as laid down by the RYA Training Division.
