THE DESIGNER

| Nationality | : Vietnamese |
What is your inspiration for the boat design?
Singaporean pride and spirit.
Although I am a Vietnamese, I have been living here for four years. I imagined that if I were a Singaporean, I would be very proud to see the national colours flying when the yacht is racing on the waters.
Do you feel a very strong connection to Singapore?
Yes, of course. I’ve been here for four years and Singapore has been like my second home. I love living here.
Is there anything about the country itself, the history, the culture, or the values that make you feel connected,
that you can identify with?
Singapore is a multicultural society and its openness and inclusiveness have made me feel at home.
You talked about the design representing the Singapore spirit.
What in your opinion is the Singapore spirit?
The Singapore spirit, to me, is about dynamism and strength. Not only is it a friendly city, it is
also refreshing to see various nationalities residing side by side; their diverse backgrounds and experiences form an interesting social tapestry.
Can you share more on your design concept?
Red and white are the national colours, while I represented the nature of yacht racing and the Singapore spirit with the waves. When the boat is on the waters, the flowing motion of the sail is conveyed by the lion’s mane in the wind. I intend for the design to be seamless, flowing from the hull to the sail.
